LANCE HORNE, b. Sheridan, WY

LANCE HORNE (b. 1977) is a Composer and Lyricist for musicals, films, and classical works seen at Carnegie’s Zankel Hall, the Studio at Sydney Opera House, Pina Bausch’s Tanzfestival, American Opera Projects, and Toronto’s Luminato Festival. He holds both a Bachelor’s and Master’s in Music Composition from the Juilliard School, where he studied with Milton Babbitt and Robert Beaser; he continued his studies at CUNY Graduate Center with David Del Tredici, and received the 2008 Emmy for Best Original Song, Daytime. Currently on faculty at the Juilliard School Precollege, EAMA Paris, and a visiting professor at HyperIsland, Stockholm, and the Interlochen Arts Academy, Mr. Horne also performs with notable artists as varied as Meow Meow, Dwight Yoakam, the Dresden Dolls, Death Cab for Cutie, the Seoul Philharmonic, the Atlanta Symphony, Justin Bond, and Alan Cumming. Mr. Horne co-produced Mr. Cumming’s debut record, concurrent with engagements at the Sydney Opera House, Lincoln Center Songbook Series, and a limited season at the Vaudeville on London’s West End. Also on the West End, Mr. Horne has appeared with Meow Meow and behind the keys for an evening of his own songs, Notes Unleashed: The Music of Lance Horne, featuring stars of London’s stage and screen. A frequent headliner at Joe’s Pub in New York, Mr. Horne also provides scores for independent films, such as last season’s Ready? OK!, starring Carrie Preston (True Blood, Duplicity) and Emmy award-winning Michael Emerson (Lost). He has performed for AMFAR, GLAAD Awards, and the Astaire Awards, written numbers for BC/EFA, and works regularly with Sing for Hope and ASTEP Foundations.

Mr. Horne received the Jonathan Larson Award for composer-lyricists in 2006, ASCAP Young Composer and Member Awards, and has participated in residencies at O'Neill NMTF, TheaterWorks Palo Alto, Orchard Project, Franklin Furnace, the Public Theatre, and the New Harmony Project. He is represented on recordings by Songs From An Unmade Bed (Ghostlight), One Life, Many Voices (One Life to Live), Broadway’s Little Women, for which he provided Vocal Arrangements (Ghostlight), A Season’s Promise (New World Records), and most recently as a pianist, arranger, and composer on Alan Cumming’s I Bought A Blue Car Today (Yellow Sound). Mr. Horne’s compositions for Television include the Lincoln Center Tree Lighting with Sesame Street, ABC; 80th Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade for Diana DeGarmo & The Phoenix Boys Choir, and the 82nd Macy's Parade for The Clique Girls, NBC. Upcoming work with Boston Pops, Geffen Playhouse, Macy’s Parade, and return engagements at Sydney Opera House.
